Entry-Level Driver Training is the federal training standard that took effect February 7, 2022. Drivers getting a Class A or B CDL for the first time, upgrading from Class B to Class A, or getting a passenger, school bus or hazmat endorsement for the first time must complete it from a provider on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.

Can I do ELDT theory online?

Yes. Theory training can be completed online at your own pace. You must score at least 80% on the theory assessment. Behind-the-wheel training is separate and done in a truck (hazmat requires theory only).

How does my completion get reported?

When you pass, we submit your completion to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, as required, so your state can see it before your skills test or hazmat knowledge test.

Do I need my permit first?

Requirements vary by state. Many students take theory before or while studying for the permit. Check your state's rules, and use our free practice tests to prepare for the permit test.
